Warranty coverage

A solar panel system is a long-term investment, and fortunately, one that requires very little maintenance over time. That said, if you experience any issues with your installation, there are multiple warranties in place to protect you.

Types of solar warranties

Solar panel product warranty

Also known as the “materials” warranty, solar panel product warranties guarantee that your solar panels will be free from manufacturing defects or durability issues for the set warranty period.

Industry standard: 10-25 years

Solar panel production warranty

Production, or “performance,” warranties guarantee your solar panels will still generate a certain amount of electricity over time, and protect you against undue degradation.

Industry standard: 25-30 years

Inverter product warranty

Your inverter product warranty guarantees your inverter will continue converting electricity for a set amount of time. Material warranties for inverters vary not only depending on manufacturer, but also inverter type: generally, microinverters have longer warranties than their string inverter counterparts.

Industry standard: 10 years for string inverters, 25 years for microinverters

Installation warranty

Provided by your installation company, an installation or workmanship warranty protects protection for any and all work done on your roof or property. If your solar installation voids any existing roof warranty you have, it’s a good idea to ensure it’s then covered by your installer.

Industry standard: 10-25 years
